The airport is located 45 km south - southeast of Sapporo city centre, close to Chitose city, Hokkaidō, Japan. The 894 km (556 miles) New Chitose - Tokyo Haneda route is the second busiest air route in the world, with 7.8 million passengers carried. New Chitose airport has 4 runways. Chitosite and New Chitose have separate runways but are connected by taxiways.
The runways at Chitose are occasionally used to relieve runway closures at New Chitose due to winter weather. In 2016 Sapporo Airport handled 21,311,918 million passengers being more than 18 million passengers from domestic flights and only 2,5 million passengers from international flights.

Domestic Terminal

The Domestic Terminal has 5 levels, since the B1 Floor is connected to the JR Line Transportation.

The largest terminal in Sapporo Airport, which is home of all international operations.

Transportation at CTS Airport

The means of transportation descibed below are available for passengers to get to and from Sapporo Airport:

 

Subway

Line green (Namboku Line) links between Sapporo city and the airport. Sapporo Municipal Subway operate with 2 more lines: The Tozai Line (orange) and Toho Line (blue). All of these lines can be boarded at Odori Station and link Sapporo city center with different destinations. The service runs from 06:00 am to 00:00 am. One way ticket: ¥200–370. Rail

One of the fastests ways to go to Sapporo City. Rail is located on the first floor basement and run every 15 minutes from 08:00 am to 10:00 pm. Price for one way: ¥1,070.

- Bus: Chuo Bus and Hokuto Kotsu Bus companies serve the airport. Buses run every 15 minutes and link the airport with Sapporo city center in 70 minutes approximately. Both terminals has bus stands, located on the first floor.

 

There are other routes that run to different destinations: Downtown Chitose, Tomakomai, Noboribetsu Onsen. There are also “ski buses” that travel to Niseko, Rusutsu and Yubari during the ski season.

- Taxi: Taxis are located outside the terminals, in exits. From Sapporo Airport to JR Sapporo Station is about YEN 10,000-13,000. Travel time: About 1 hour. Some taxi companies offer a fixed-price service to Sapporo city beginning from ¥7,000 (booking and a separate expressway fee are required).
